Omaha Hi-Lo: General Outline

[ English ]

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has increased in popularity so quickly.

Omaha Hi-Lo starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants can get confused. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical concept in just about every poker game.

A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

Although it seems complicated initially, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an overwhelming range of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, as well as several trying for the low. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha hi low.
