Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
