Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
