Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
