Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants can get baffled. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less.
