Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he enjoyed playing numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these particular card games while playing his father. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he would play many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he possibly could better his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and focus more on poker.
The real improvement in his game began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently challenge one another. He had access into a number of the best minds in chess. He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the best female players the poker world today. He relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in cash games for the successive decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
