Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
