Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
