Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
