Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
