Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
